Simple Indicator-Based Forex Trading Strategy
This strategy uses two common technical indicators — Moving Averages and RSI (Relative Strength Index) — to generate clear buy and sell signals. It is suitable for beginners and can be applied to any major currency pair on the H1 or H4 timeframe.
Strategy Setup
Indicators Required
- EMA 20 — 20-period Exponential Moving Average (fast)
- EMA 50 — 50-period Exponential Moving Average (slow)
- RSI (14) — Relative Strength Index with period 14
Currency Pairs & Timeframe
Best results on: EUR/USD, GBP/USD, USD/JPY. Recommended timeframe: H1 or H4. Avoid trading during major news releases.
Entry Rules
BUY Signal (Long Entry)
1. EMA 20 crosses above EMA 50 (golden cross)
2. RSI is above 50 (bullish momentum)
3. RSI is not above 70 (not overbought)
Enter a buy order at the close of the signal candle.
SELL Signal (Short Entry)
1. EMA 20 crosses below EMA 50 (death cross)
2. RSI is below 50 (bearish momentum)
3. RSI is not below 30 (not oversold)
Enter a sell order at the close of the signal candle.
Exit Rules
- Stop Loss: Place 10–15 pips beyond the most recent swing high/low, or use 1.5x ATR(14)
- Take Profit: Set at 2x the stop loss distance (minimum 1:2 risk-reward ratio)
- Early Exit: Close the trade early if EMA 20 crosses back in the opposite direction before TP is reached
Risk Management Rules
- Risk no more than 1–2% of account balance per trade
- Never trade more than 3 open positions simultaneously
- Avoid trading the 30 minutes before and after major news events
- Keep a trading journal — log every trade with entry, exit, and notes

Open Chart
Open EUR/USD H1 chart in MT4
Add EMAs
Add EMA 20 (red line) and EMA 50 (blue line)
Add RSI
Add RSI (14) in a separate window with levels at 30, 50, and 70
Wait for Signal
Wait for EMA 20 to cross EMA 50 — confirm RSI direction
Enter Trade
Enter the trade and set stop loss and take profit immediately
